Bɔlɔ ni gengena i ŋɛna ibɛo dondu ku don. (Tu ne peux pas connaître la profondeur de la poutre qui n'a pas été enfoncée devant toi.)

Amadou Sanogo

150 × 159 cm, acrylic on canvas

This third painting, created in Rennes, depicts two white heads facing each other, their bodies joined as one. The two figures appear to be engaged in conversation. This proverb means that in order to judge a matter and give one's opinion, it is better to know the facts. It is advice to avoid talking about things one does not know or has not seen. This leads the artist to point out that « one can only talk about where one lives, where one is ».
