Artist

Ugo Rondinone, born on 30 November 1964 (59 years old) in Brunnen, is a Swiss contemporary artist, widely recognized for his mastery of several different media, mainly sculpture, drawing and painting, but also photography, architecture, video and sound art, in largely figurative works that he created for exhibitions in galleries, museums and outdoor public spaces around the world. He was never limited to a particular subject, nor to a single discipline. Lead, wood, wax, bronze, stained glass, ink, paint, earth and stone are all tools that he used in a creative arsenal to extend the romantic tradition in works as sensitive to the passage of time as to the nuances of body language and speech.

Ugo Rondinone is widely known for his large-scale temporary land art sculpture, Seven Magic Mountains (2016-2021), with its seven fluorescent painted totems of large stacked 9.8 m1 waist stones.

His installations, which often include a performance by the artist and keep a video trace, feature a central character, alter-ego of the artist, a clown, figure of sadness and disappointment.
