From 14 February to 16 May 2026, La Criée is presenting an exhibition by Marcel Dzama, an internationally renowned Canadian artist based in New York, but rarely exhibited in France. Entitled Le voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon), in homage to Georges Méliès, the magician of early cinema, it presents for the first time in Europe a wide selection of the artist's films, accompanied by a collection of storyboards, drawings, models and sculptures.

Conceived and produced at a particular moment in her career, during which she travelled extensively between France, Italy and Brazil, Hélène Bertin's exhibition dansetremblenage at La Criée centre d'art contemporain is a response through beauty to trauma and pain.
dansetremblenage explores several cosmogonies, techniques and rituals, seeking a balance between living and doing, doing and feeling, feeling and learning. Through two series of sculptures depicting bodies in motion and a collection of texts, Hélène Bertin invites us to join the dance, listen to the emotions and sensations that flow through us, and to let the rivers within us flow freely.

Exploring voice and language as well as notions of transformation and transposition, Violaine Lochu has developed an artistic practice at the crossroads of the visual arts, experimental music and sound poetry. Her solo exhibition at La Criée, Pharmakon / Reboot unfolds around healing songs, gestures and thoughts. It is conceived as an ensemble in which video-performances, costume-partitions, drawing-writing, sound pieces and site-specific performances interact.

From 10 October to 29 December 2024, La Criée centre d’art contemporain presents Biomimetic Stories, an opus in augmented reality by artist Pierre Jean Giloux. At the crossroads of documentary, science and science fiction, Biomimetic Stories projects new links that could develop in the near future between the city and nature, technology and biology. Combining real and virtual images, the work is divided into four forward-looking fictions, set in four Indian cities.

This summer, La Criée presents Rasmus Myrup’s Salon des refusées, the Danish artist’s first solo show in a French venue. Some twenty characters, extravagant anthropomorphic sculptures, seated, lying down, standing, alone or in groups, occupy the space of the art center, transformed into a café/safe place: a facetious and striking picture of an offbeat society.

Camera in hand, Anne-Charlotte Finel explores interstices and boundary zones: between light and darkness, wild and man-made spaces, animal and plant, human and non-human, living and machine, etc. With its exploration of these thresholds, the Respiro exhibition at La Criée centre d’art contemporain offers a visual and aural experience that questions and blurs the contours of our perceptions and representations.

After rising in the East (at Home Works 8/Beirut Art Center in 2019, with a different title), then finding its zenith in the North (at S.M.A.K in Ghent in 2020), Charbel-joseph H. Boutros’s exhibition The Sun Is My Only Ally is completing its trajectory in the West, at La Criée Centre for Contemporary Art. Like the sun. For Rennes, Boutros is bringing together a group of poetically abstract works forming an environment – a geographic entity – in which private stories are interwoven with those of art, place and the course of history, time present with traces of the past and the components of reality with the alchemy of dreams.

From 21 May to 28 August 2022, La Criée centre for contemporary Art is presenting « Le Cantique des oiseaux » (The Canticle of the Birds), a choral exhibition and new production by Katia Kameli, in which the artist proposes a variation, composed of musical ceramics, watercolours and a film, on the famous text of the same name by the Persian poet Farîd-ud-Dîn ‘Attâr. With Le Cantique des oiseaux, Katia Kameli continues her inter-cultural journeyings and initiates direct contact with clay, a new material for her.

Titled L'Œuf pondu deux fois (The Egg Layed Twice), Éléonore Saintagnan's exhibition at La Criée centre for contemporary art brings together a selection of films presented in tree houses put together using techniques and materials salvaged locally. The assemblage is rounded off with miscellaneous objects, games and ceramics made by the artist.

Titled SOONER'S TWO DAYS BETTER - from the Breton proverb 'N abretañ ar gwellañ, a quirky equivalent of "the sooner the better" - Seulgi Lee's exhibition at La Criée centre for contemporary art comprises a group of works fuelled by more or less close collaborations. Its focus is the trope, a figurative or metaphorical use of a word or expression.

Inspired by the tidal wave of change that has been sweeping the world, At the Gates is an exhibition celebrating the distinctive and powerful voices of artists engaging with social histories and personal politics. Often brushing up against the law, or institutions of power, the works in this exhibition amplify the global struggle towards female self-empowerment, and in the case of Ireland's historic fight for abortion rights against the Eighth Amendment in 2018, the right to bodily self-determination.

The anxiety, the excesses, the slumps and the frenetic, breakneck era, we and the Earth are going through: this new group exhibition at La Criée centre for contemporary art offers a response in the form of a pause - an adjournment. With all the innocent promise of the first rays of dawn.

For his first institutional solo show in France, Californian artist David Horvitz is looking to our perceptions of time and space in terms of variation and interchange. His work makes use of a range of media either material (photographs, books, performances, sculptures) or immaterial (interventions on the Net, narratives, rumours). Heir to both the Romantics and the Conceptualists, he practises an art of play, surprise, rhizomatics and circulation.

À Cris Ouverts - title of the 6th edition of Les Ateliers de Rennes - Contemporary Art Biennale - sounds to the ear "or says" other than it reads: "with wide open screams/or crisis/or verse/or green". It aims to reflect on different ways of being by opening up and enacting distinct paths, not only through dissonance but also through contestation (and sometimes) through the break of meaning that happens with the embracing of the unknown.

The City of Rennes' art collection is not intended to be exhibited in a permanent location. It is primarily an expression of a policy designed to support artists and cultural actors on the Rennes scene and to build up a heritage that reflects artistic reality.

Water and the shoreline are recurring elements in the work of Marcel Dinahet. The artist places his early sculptures in water and then creates video installations that explore the physicality and temporality of the aquatic landscape.
