On the occasion of the art center's 40th anniversary, La Criée is partnering with Rennes-based artists Léa Bénétou, Fanny Martel, and Yann Baïzid to create a new game called Rejouer La Criée. The game draws on the art center's archives, specifically a selection of 40 works produced by La Criée since 1986.

About

Rejouer La Criée is the result of a long-term collaborative project, shaped by many exchanges and encounters with audiences and artists.

Rejouer La Criée
follows the game LiZellBa, developed with the artist collective Léa Bénétou, Fanny Martel, and Yann Baïzid, around the eight exhibitions of the artistic cycle Lili, la rozell et le marimba from 2019 to 2022. This game was deployed at the art center and in over a hundred venues (schools, retirement homes, medical-social centers, etc.) to reach out to diverse audiences.

LiZellBa
also traveled to Martinique at the invitation of the La Station Culturelle art center for the Îlots ekspo residency in 2023. The workshops held to adapt the game to the Caribbean context with Martinican artists Arthur Francietta, Jean-Marc Bulet, and Léo Brival inspired new avenues of development for the artists from Rennes and the mediators at La Criée.

In 2024, in preparation for La Criée’s 40th-anniversary programming, the public relations team, Léa Bénétou, Fanny Martel and Yann Baïzid set out to create a new game based on the art center’s history.

Rejouer La Criée reinterprets a selection of 40 works produced by La Criée between 1986 and 2026. These works were chosen by the entire La Criée team based on objective criteria (one work per year, taking into account the diversity of media and their representativeness in the history of contemporary art or on the local scene) and more subjective criteria (anecdotes or memorable moments shared with the public).

The game has been expanded with thematic cards and sheets to explore other aspects that have shaped La Criée’s history: international projects, artist residencies and projects in Brittany, publications, and more.

The game does not claim to cover the entire history of the art center and could not include all the works produced since 1986; it offers a glimpse into its rich and varied activities, both within and beyond its walls.
