A philosopher of marginal and radical music, Catherine Guesde also runs a project halfway between drone and noise music under the name Cígvë. It is between these two practices that her performance at La Criée will take place.
Catherine Guesde is an associate professor in the philosophy department at the University of Paris 8 Vincennes – Saint-Denis; her research focuses on marginal and radical forms of popular music, such as extreme metal and noise. She co-authored with Pauline Nadrigny "The Most Beautiful Ugly Sound in the World": Listening to Noise (Éditions Musica Falsa, 2018) and edited the collective work Penser avec le punk (Presses Universitaires de France, 2022), and is a member of the editorial board of the journal La Vie des idées. In parallel with her research, she pursues various musical projects, written or improvised, solo (Cigvë) or collectively, always from an experimental approach to the electric guitar.
