Through different techniques such as drawing, photogravure, sculpture, photography, sound, cooking or performance – sometimes the whole intertwined – Lei Saito opens our eyes to new narratives. An edible ice rink, reflections on a gold leaf or an imaginary constellation; his works are often woven with mythological inspirations, references to the history of art or observation of landscapes but they also testify to poetic stumbling or small details of nature and matter.
The time of his summer residency is an opportunity to give a new form to this narrative where a sentimental experience, an atmosphere, crystallizes.
Initiated since 2017 by the art centers "Passerelle" in Brest and "La Criée" in Rennes, Territoires EXTRA develops around three axes of work: supporting artistic emergence in Brittany through production and dissemination; build an artistic project in touch with the Breton territorial actors; include artistic emergence in an international dynamic. Territoires EXTRA takes the form of research and/or creation artist residencies and is accompanied by specific mediation work, in order to strengthen ties between audiences, local partners, institutions and artistic projects, in an effort to transmit and raise awareness around the presence of artists in the territories.
