The City of Rennes' art collection is not intended to be exhibited in a permanent location. It is primarily an expression of a policy designed to support artists and cultural actors on the Rennes scene and to build up a heritage that reflects artistic reality.

The City of Rennes art collection is not intended for full-time exhibition. It is above all the expression of a policy of support for artists and cultural actors on the Rennes scene, and of the desire to build a heritage that reflects today's artistic reality. The exhibition The Shadow, the Reflection, the Echo at La Criée is built around a choice of recent acquisitions for a collection now including more than 300 works of art. This is a great opportunity to trigger debate on art and the city, the notion of the collection whether public or private, and the artist's place in the city. Landscape is used as a unifying theme, a first step for the public towards the discovery of works and artists mostly from Rennes itself.
